ENERGY STAR certification is included in every home that Trigon builds.  When comparing builders it is important to understand how much value ENERGY STAR will add to your new home.

• Lower utility bills – ENERY STAR homes are at least 15% more efficient than a house built to the 2004 International Residential Code and are 20-30% more efficient than a standard house.  The greater efficiency in an ENERGY STAR home means lower utility costs every month.

• Less maintenance - Tight construction and long-lasting, efficient equipment make our homes more durable, preventing many of the maintenance headaches you’ll find in typical homes.

• Higher resale value – The increasing demand from consumers for efficient and earth-friendly products means that your ENERGY STAR home will have greater value when you go to sell.

• Environmental protection – Your home can generate more pollution than your car.  16% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. are generated by power plants fueling the energy used in houses nationwide.  By reducing the energy you use in your home, you will reduce your impact on the planet.

• Greater comfort and better performance – The products used in a Trigon ENERGY STAR home deliver better protection against heat, cold, drafts, moisture, pollution and noise creating a more comfortable and healthy living environment.

• Third part verification – ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that requires each home built to be inspected and tested multiple times with the best available electronic technology.  A certified independent Home Energy Rater monitors construction for compliance with strict guidelines and to ensure that the home performs to set standards. 

Features of a Trigon ENERGY STAR® Home

• Sealed building envelope – Trigon uses specific and conscientious framing methods that allow for maximum insulation.  Then we seal the entire house stopping drafts and heat transfer.

• Superior insulation – Trigon blows insulation into the walls of each house we build.  Compared to conventional batt insulation, blown insulation completely fills every space in a wall and is denser creating a better R-value performance.

• Low-E Argon windows - Low-E glass coatings reflect infrared light, which keeps heat inside in the winter and outside in the summer.  Low-E glass also reflects ultraviolet light, protecting interior furnishings from fading.  Argon gas is used to fill the space between the window panes.  It is an odorless, colorless, non-toxic gas that insulates better than a typical air-filled window.

• Sealed duct work – All of the heating and cooling ducts are tightly sealed to prevent air loss and make the HVAC system more efficient.

• Energy Star ceiling fans – Trigon puts standard two ENERGY STAR ceiling fans in each home.  These help move air and cool the home while using less energy than the HVAC systems.

• Energy Star appliances – Trigon’s standard appliance packages include ENERGY STAR refrigerators and dishwashers.  Refrigerators and freezers consume approximately one-sixth of all of the electricity used in American households.  ENERGY STAR refrigerators can save up to $100 each year over a 15 year old model.

• Independent Testing – Trigon’s homes are inspected and tested several times during construction by an independent and certified Home Energy Rater.  This ensures that the home meets the ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency and performs to our standards.
