What Is a Green Home?

Green building is the hottest trend in home building today. But what is a Green Home?
The building industry is still defining this term specifically, but overall it means an energy efficient home, that helps protect the environment, preserve natural resources and has a reduced impact on the earth.

What this means for home buyers usually is lower utility costs, better indoor air quality, more consistent indoor temperatures, and reduced noise pollution.

What does a Green Home look like?
An energy efficient home looks exactly like all other homes. The features that make your new home a Green Home are all behind the scene improvements that you will only see when your home is being built. These improvements usually include:

1) Effective Insulation
2) High-Performance Windows and Doors
3) Tight Construction and Tight Ducts
4) Energy-Efficient Heating and Cooling Equipment
5) Energy Star appliances
6) Using Efficient Building Materials
7) Site Planning

Does my home need to be Certified?
At Trigon Homes, we customize each home to give you the perfect fit. This could mean building you a fully certified Energy Star and EarthCraft House designed home. We'll go over the processes up front in the planning process, and you'll help choose the features that make your home certified.

If building a certified home is not your goal, we already incorporate many energy-mindful options as standard features in our quality construction, such as the Energy Star appliances. Other options, such as Low-E windows, programmable thermostats, and more, are upgrades you may select without actually certifying your new home.

Why build a Green Home?
The cost for natural resources to heat, cool and light your home is only going to increase in the future. By building a more efficient home, you are guaranteeing utility savings, especially as these fuels get more expensive than they are today.

With this in mind, it is much more likely that the future home buyer will also be looking for the same energy efficient features. This means your home's resale value is significantly enhanced as a certified home.
